O3 PROTÉGELO, S.L. offers BALEARIA EUROLINEAS MARÍTIMAS, S.A. the opportunity to perform a self-monitoring of atmospheric pollutant emissions on a VOLVO PENTA diesel engine in order to determine the emission levels these vehicles may generate.
The purpose of this report is to document the results of atmospheric pollutant emissions measurements before and after the installation of a hydrocarbon catalytic converter supplied by the manufacturer O3 Protégelo, S.L., thereby obtaining comparative results.
In accordance with the established planning, the device is installed, and measurements of CO, NOx, O2, HC, CO2, and opacity (idle) are taken to determine the composition of the gases emitted by the engines through the exhaust pipe.
Specifically, measurements are taken on the VOLVO PENTA engine. Several measurements were taken on the engine to assess the efficiency of the installed O3 Protégelo device. The vehicle to be analyzed was:
1. CORB MARI l tugboat, with a VOLVO Penta engine from STARBOARD.
To perform the measurements, the vehicle was moored at the maritime station s/n, in the port of Denia, Alicante. Ms. Inés Guerrero acted as the person in charge.
The measurements to be performed were:
1. Gas measurements at low rpm.
Measurements were taken at an optimal ambient temperature.
Exhaust gas measurements were taken at a single sampling point located inside the exhaust pipe, 20 centimeters from the exhaust gas outlet to the atmosphere.
The location of the sampling point, the duration of the measurements, and the measurement method were agreed upon.
The atmospheric emissions control was performed by O3 PROTÉGELO's Technical Manager, Isidro Moreno.
The engine was run for 20 minutes to ensure an optimal and stable temperature before taking the measurements. Several samples were taken to obtain an average measurement with the engine running.
The methodology used was to take readings with electrochemical cell equipment programmed to collect stable data with several measurements, obtaining an average of the measurements taken. The equipment is properly calibrated according to the criteria required by the CLM Laboratory Center in Madrid for the measurement of atmospheric polluting gases.
The following document presents the results obtained for each vehicle, according to the conditions determined by the technician during sampling.
After installing the O3 Protect it device on the fuel line, a significant reduction in OPACITY (Idle Speed) was observed, as well as a significant reduction in HC (Unburned Hydrocarbons) and NOx gases. The CO value remained stable at "0," O2 (oxygen) increased slightly, and CO2 levels decreased slightly. These variations indicate improved fuel efficiency.
As a final result, combustion and engine performance in the starboard engine of the tugboat CORB MARI l were improved.
